Bricklin Windshield Wipers

How do windshield wiper blades work?

Vehicle windshield wiper blades function through a combination of mechanical and electrical components to maintain visibility in adverse weather. When the driver activates the wipers using a switch, it sends a signal to the wiper motor. This motor then converts electrical energy into mechanical motion.

The motor engages a linkage system that translates its rotational movement into a back-and-forth motion of the wiper arms. Attached to these arms are the wiper blades, composed of a rubber blade and a supporting frame. As the arms move, the blades sweep across the windshield, clearing away rain, snow, and debris. The design ensures that the blades maintain consistent contact with the glass, utilizing a spring mechanism for even pressure.

If you're noticing streaks, squeaks, or poor wiping performance, it may be time for a windshield wiper blade replacement. Choosing the right aftermarket windshield wiper blade can significantly improve your visibility and driving safety.

How often should wiper blades be changed?

• Usage: If you frequently drive in harsh weather conditions, such as heavy rain or snow, you may need to replace them more often.
• Visible wear: Inspect the blades regularly for signs of wear, such as cracks, tears, or hardened rubber. If they leave streaks or miss spots on the windshield, it's time for a replacement.
• Seasonal checks: It’s a good practice to replace wiper blades at the start of each season, especially before winter and summer, when weather conditions can vary significantly.
• Driving habits: High-mileage drivers should monitor their wiper blades more closely, as frequent use can lead to faster wear.
