Engine Timing Belt Tensioner

Belt Tensioner with Pulley for Ford Escape 2005-2008 Land Rover Mazda Tribute

Did the job

I don't normally post reviews on parts because I expect them to be suitable replacements and to just fit like they are supposed to. On the upper tensioner, the torx size was a fraction smaller than the original. While holding tension on it to install the belt, the outer ear of the torx fitting broke off causing the spring stop to also break and unwind further than it was supposed to. Because the whole unit was broke and disformed, I couldn't remove it from the engine. had to cut it in half to get it back out. Ended up costing me over an hour just to remove the junk tensioner on what should have been a 30 minute job to change these and belts.

Thank you for taking the time to provide such a detailed and technically thorough review. First and foremost, please accept our sincere apologies for the critical failure of the upper belt tensioner on your Volvo. Having the Torx fitting shear under spring tension, deform the housing, and force you to spend over an hour cutting the unit in half just to extract it from a tight engine bay is an unacceptable nightmare for any mechanic or DIYer.
We take structural failures of this nature very seriously. Our Quality Assurance and Engineering teams have already flagged this specific production lot to audit Torx socket dimensional tolerances and alloy casting shear strength under high spring preload.
Because customer accountability is our top priority, our senior customer relations team has already reached out directly to your email with a 100% full refund for the tensioner—with zero return required. We deeply regret the wasted time and frustration this caused, and we appreciate you holding us to the standard you expect.
