What does a throttle body do?

The throttle body acts as a valve between the air intake system and the engine's intake manifold. It controls the flow of air into the engine. When you press the accelerator, it opens to allow more air in. Releasing the accelerator causes the throttle plate to close, reducing the airflow.

When the vehicle is at a standstill or moving at low speeds, the throttle plate may be partially closed to limit the amount of air entering the engine. When you need more power, the throttle plate opens wider to allow more air for combustion.

How to clean a throttle body?

Tools needed:

• Screwdriver or socket set
• Throttle body cleaner
• Clean cloth or paper towels
• Safety glasses and gloves

Steps:

1. Safety Precautions:

• Ensure the engine is cool.
• Wear safety glasses and gloves.
• Disconnect the battery.

2. Locate the Throttle Body: Find it between the air intake hose and the intake manifold.
3. Remove Air Intake Tube: If needed, detach the air intake tube to access the throttle body.
4. Inspect and Clean: Use a throttle body cleaner to spray and clean the throttle plate and interior surfaces. Wipe away residue with a cloth.
5. Reassemble: Reattach the air intake tube and reconnect the battery.
6. Start and Test: Start the engine and take it for a test drive to ensure smooth operation.
