Audi brake rotor and pad kits combine discs and pads for front, rear or four-wheel service. Rotor diameter and the installed brake assembly help distinguish compatible sets, while fitting hardware can vary. Find your Audi application at A-Premium and choose the package that covers the brakes being repaired.
Audi brake rotor and pad kits vary by the axle being serviced and the brake assembly fitted to the vehicle. A front package, a rear package and a four-wheel combination can serve different repairs, even before rotor size enters the decision. Keep the original brake configuration in view when comparing options. Matching the discs and pads to that configuration matters more than choosing a package because it has more pieces or a more elaborate surface pattern.
The disc must sit in the right position between the pads and within the caliper bracket. Its outside diameter describes only one part of that fit. Thickness, mounting height and the center opening affect the installed relationship as well. A matching bolt pattern cannot compensate for a disc that sits too far inward or outward.
Audi brake combinations can specify different disc diameters and mounting dimensions, even when the packages cover the same axle. On a car with more than one factory brake option, the relevant dimensions help identify which replacement belongs on that axle. Record the existing brake size before comparing surface finishes so that a change in appearance does not obscure a difference in fit.
Vented discs have internal passages between two friction faces. Solid discs have no comparable internal passage. A front-and-rear combination can use a vented disc at the front and a solid disc at the rear; both remain correct only for their specified applications. The construction is part of the required brake design.
Drilled holes and slots are features of the friction faces. Internal vents are passages within the rotor body, so these descriptions can appear together on the same disc. When comparing Audi brake pads and rotors, separate the construction required by the vehicle from the available face designs. Neither a drilled pattern nor a slotted face establishes a particular stopping distance.
A rotor loses material as it works against the pads. Its discard thickness is the limit for continued service, while nominal thickness describes the new part. A remaining outer lip is not a useful substitute for measuring the working surfaces. Surface damage, corrosion and the condition of both sides also affect the repair decision.
When a disc requires replacement, plan the friction parts for the affected axle together. A complete front-and-rear package is useful when both axles need that work; it is not proof that every brake component on the vehicle needs replacement. Establish the condition of the existing brakes first, then choose a package whose contents correspond to the repair.
Electronic sensor inclusion depends on the kit and axle. A front-and-rear set may supply an indicator at the front only, while an axle-only set may supply no pad sensor at all. When comparing Audi brake pads, check the sensor arrangement and included contents separately; the friction-material description does not identify an electrical connection.
Fitting clips and lubricant serve different purposes. Clips locate or retain pads in the brake assembly; lubricant treats specified contact points during service. A package may list each separately, so compare its contents with the parts required for the job. Shims, clips, sensors and lubricant should not be treated as one interchangeable hardware item.
Keep lubricant off the disc's working faces and the pad friction material. Those surfaces need clean contact to perform their braking function. Lubrication points, permitted products and treatment of contaminated components belong to the applicable fitting instructions; spreading grease over the friction surfaces is not a method of preventing squeal.
Fluid maintenance is a separate service decision. Replacing the friction parts does not renew the fluid throughout the hydraulic system, and fluid condition is not established by how new the discs look. Follow the vehicle's maintenance requirements and assess any hydraulic symptoms independently of the mechanical parts selected for the axle. For the distinction between these services, see the brake fluid and friction-part replacement guide.
Use the bedding instructions supplied for the vehicle and its new friction parts. A single sequence of stops is not suitable for every brake combination. The installer should first confirm correct assembly and normal pedal operation. A soft pedal, pulling or poor braking needs correction before bedding in can begin.
