A starter motor assembly uses battery power to crank the engine during startup. Correct selection requires more than matching the vehicle name. Enter the exact year, make, model, engine, trim, and transmission, then review any build-date or submodel note. Compare voltage, power rating, rotation direction, pinion tooth count, mounting pattern, electrical terminals, and interchange numbers. A starter with a different tooth count or rotation can look similar but cannot be assumed to fit.

Which Starter Specifications and Notes Matter?

Current listings show meaningful differences in power rating, clockwise or counterclockwise rotation, pinion teeth, transmission application, mounting-bolt requirements, and included connections. Use the product page as the authority for the selected SKU.

• Vehicle configuration: Verify engine, transmission, drivetrain, body style, build date, and any model-specific exclusion.

Clicking or Slow Cranking Does Not Confirm Starter Failure

A single click, repeated clicking, slow crank, intermittent crank, or no crank can justify testing the starting system, but these symptoms do not identify one failed part by themselves. A weak battery, loose or corroded cables, poor ground, high circuit resistance, faulty relay, ignition-switch or control-circuit problem, engine mechanical issue, or damaged flywheel teeth may produce similar results.

Check battery condition and state of charge, inspect both cable paths and grounds, and test the starter control circuit before ordering. A charging fault can leave the battery undercharged, so review the alternator and charging-system results when the battery repeatedly loses charge.

Starter Replacement Preparation and Post-Repair Checks

Before removing the old starter, record wire locations and protect loose leads from contact. Compare the replacement housing, mounting flange, pinion, connector positions, and any supplied hardware with the original. Do not pull a starter into alignment by tightening the bolts.

Inspect cables, heat shields, brackets, grounds, and accessible ring-gear teeth. Reinstall every shield and support in its original location, then confirm that cables are routed away from exhaust and moving parts. After reconnection, verify a normal crank without grinding, continued engagement, warning messages, or hot connections. If the engine still will not crank, return to circuit testing instead of replacing additional parts without evidence.

Transmission, Build Date and Bolt Notes Can Change the Starter

Vehicles sharing a model name may use different starters because of engine, automatic or manual transmission, drivetrain, production date, or submodel changes.
