BMW X5 Tailgate Lock Actuator

What is a tailgate lock actuator for?

A tailgate lock actuator is an essential part of a vehicle’s power locking system, commonly found in modern cars. Its main function is to operate the locking and unlocking of the trunk or tailgate automatically. When the driver presses the lock or unlock button on the key fob or interior control panel, a signal is transmitted to the vehicle’s central locking system. This system then engages the tailgate lock actuator, which triggers the mechanism to secure or release the tailgate.

This liftgate actuator is usually a compact, motorized unit built into the tailgate’s locking assembly. It receives commands from the vehicle’s electronic control module (ECM), allowing for seamless electronic control of tailgate access with just the push of a button.
