What An Engine Timing Belt Does

An engine timing belt keeps the crankshaft and camshaft in the required relationship so the valves open and close at the right points in the engine cycle.

A-Premium offers timing belts for selected car and motorcycle applications. Choose the belt for the exact engine and vehicle: tooth count, width and belt profile must match the timing drive, and a matching tooth count alone is not enough.

Planning A Timing Belt Replacement

Accessing the timing drive may also expose the tensioner, idlers or water pump, depending on the engine. Their condition and the manufacturer's service instructions help determine what else to replace while the belt is accessible.

Check the package before ordering: a timing belt sold on its own does not imply that a tensioner, idlers or water pump are included. Correct shaft position, belt routing and tension are essential during installation.

How is a timing belt different from a serpentine belt?

The timing belt synchronizes engine shafts, while a serpentine belt usually drives external accessories such as an alternator. Their locations, construction and service intervals can differ, so identify which belt the engine needs.
