Volvo Brake Dust Shield

Choosing Brake Dust Shields

A brake dust shield sits behind a disc brake rotor, where its shape and mounting points must suit the wheel assembly. Front and rear shields can differ, as can the driver and passenger sides. Match the intended position and the mounting pattern instead of choosing by diameter alone.

A-Premium offers paired shields for selected front or rear applications. A two-piece package can cover both sides of an axle when its parts are specified for those positions; check the individual set before ordering.

What A Brake Splash Shield Does

The shield helps deflect road splash and debris from the inner side of the brake assembly. It is positioned close to the rotating disc but should have the clearance required by the vehicle. Its open shape does not seal the wheel or keep all brake dust away from it.

A shield that has lost its shape or secure mounting may contact nearby parts. Inspect its condition and the surrounding brake components when planning a replacement.

Planning A Brake Dust Shield Replacement

The surrounding hub and brake components determine how a shield can be reached. Service procedures differ by vehicle, so the work may involve more than removing the wheel. Follow the appropriate brake-service procedure and use the correct support and lifting points.

Before reassembly, check that the replacement is seated at its mounting points and has clearance around the rotor. Brake friction surfaces must remain clean and free of grease.
