Volkswagen GTI AC Compressor Control Valve

The compressor control valve regulates compressor operation in the applicable design. An expansion valve meters refrigerant into the evaporator. They work at different points in the system and are not interchangeable.

Some compressor designs have a separately serviceable valve. Test the system first: internal compressor damage or contamination may need additional repair, while a valve-specific fault can have a different remedy.

The valve has to match the compressor's design and connections. For example, one A-Premium valve specifies compressor type 6SEU16C; a vehicle name alone may not identify the installed compressor.

Control arrangements vary by compressor. Some variable-displacement compressors use an electronically commanded valve, while others use internal pressure control. The replacement must match the installed design and connection.

When valve removal opens the refrigerant circuit, the refrigerant needs to be recovered using appropriate equipment before the repair. Have the system serviced by a qualified A/C technician using the vehicle's procedure and applicable requirements.
