Ram 1500 Brake Rotors

Ram Brake Rotors By Body Code And Axle Equipment

Ram brake rotors can distinguish body codes and axle equipment within the same model family. A rear application may combine a platform designation with a rear-axle-ratio requirement and four-wheel disc brakes. Other parts carry separate caliper or mounting conditions. Match the complete vehicle entry before comparing quantities, then plan the discs, suitable new pads and fitting items for the axle that inspection identifies as needing friction-part replacement.

Rear-Axle Ratio And Four-Wheel Disc Conditions

One Ram 1500 rear application for body code DT specifies a 3.21 or 3.55 rear-axle ratio and anti-lock four-wheel disc brakes. These are combined fitment conditions for that application.

Disc brakes use pads that clamp a rotor, while drum brakes use shoes that work against the inside of a drum. A replacement identified for rear discs or four-wheel disc brakes assumes that arrangement is already installed. Confirm the rear brake type before choosing the corresponding service parts, especially when a model has several equipment versions. A rotor-and-pad purchase covers friction-part replacement; changing a drum system to discs requires additional system-specific components and planning beyond an ordinary replacement package.

Comparing Ram Rotor Quantities And Accessories

Compare the component and accessory descriptions for each suitable product. Options under one vehicle make can come from different manufacturers and can supply different pad materials, fitting pieces or quantities. A shared vehicle application therefore does not make every package identical. Read the itemized contents and the features stated for that particular product, then compare purchases with the same repair coverage. This provides a clearer basis for choosing than applying one product's material, construction or accessory details to every option in the category.

Uneven Brake Wear And Additional Repairs

Uneven pad wear or a brake that fails to release can reveal a problem beyond worn friction material. The caliper, guides and related components need inspection to determine why contact persists or differs between sides. Correct that cause when fitting the new parts, otherwise the replacement surfaces may be exposed to the same problem. The inspection determines whether the purchase needs pads and rotors alone or additional components. A larger kit is useful when it covers the diagnosed work, rather than simply because it contains more pieces.

Checking Rotor And Hub Mounting Surfaces

Rotor installation also depends on the condition of the mounting surfaces. The hub face needs inspection and preparation under the service procedure so the disc can seat correctly. Corrosion, trapped debris or damage can affect that relationship even when the replacement has the right dimensions. Have the installer check the retained wheel-end components and any required measurements after fitting. New friction parts should be installed on a suitable assembly, with mounting faults addressed rather than left beneath the replacement disc.
