Intake Manifold Runner Control Valve, Solenoid Or Actuator?

Intake manifold runner control parts operate within the intake system, but the products in this collection are not all the same component. Listings include runner solenoids and an intake manifold actuator with different electrical connections, mounting arrangements and engine applications.

Identify the component being replaced and match its engine application and connector. Some listings specify fuel-system or other application conditions, and included brackets or hoses vary by part.

How Intake Manifold Runner Control Works

A runner control system changes the position of intake-manifold passages or flaps as directed by the engine control system. Depending on the design, a solenoid can control vacuum supplied to an actuator, or an electrically operated actuator can perform a different role in the system.

The valve, actuator, hoses and manifold mechanism work together. Replacing one part is useful when that part is the source of the fault, but it does not repair a disconnected hose or a sticking mechanism elsewhere.

Diagnosing Intake Runner Control Problems

Hesitation, reduced response or an engine warning can have several causes. A runner-control fault may involve the actuator or solenoid, electrical connections, vacuum supply or the manifold mechanism. A trouble code identifies a system to investigate and should be considered with the inspection and test results.

Compare the connector and any hose or linkage with the installed component. A matching part name alone cannot distinguish every runner-control design.

Is an IMRC solenoid the same as a manifold actuator?

They can be separate parts with different jobs. In a vacuum-operated design, a solenoid controls the vacuum supplied to an actuator; the actuator moves the relevant mechanism. Other engines use a different arrangement, so match the part to the installed system.

Does every runner control valve include a bracket and hose?

Accessories vary with the individual part. One A-Premium solenoid in the collection specifically lists a bracket and hose; that package detail should not be assumed for a different valve or actuator.

Can a blocked vacuum hose set a runner-control fault?

On a vacuum-operated system, a restricted or leaking hose can keep the actuator from receiving the expected vacuum. Volkswagen documents restricted vacuum lines as a possible cause of runner-control trouble codes on specific engines. Check the system fitted to the vehicle.

Does a runner-control code always mean the solenoid is bad?

The code can reflect a problem with the valve, actuator, wiring or vacuum supply rather than one failed part. For example, Mazda lists a blocked vacuum hose and a signal-circuit fault among possible checks for a specific runner-control code.

Does an IMRC actuator replace the intake manifold?

An actuator or solenoid is a separate control component on the applicable system. If the manifold or its internal mechanism is damaged, the repair scope may be different from a control-part replacement. Identify which part has failed before ordering.
