What is a power steering rack & pinion assembly in a car?

When you crank your steering wheel, your car's power steering rack, an assembly, causes your wheels to swivel from side to side. A tie rod that joins the steering arm to the spindle is attached to both ends of the rack. Your steering wheel pushes the rack to the right or left as you turn it.
